Material Design and Minimalism

My main takeaway from reading Google's Material Design document: use shadows to create the illusion of physical layers. At the same time, I found the aggressive, flat colour minimalism of the mobile sites fascinating. Combining the two into flat shadows gives a 3D effect, which enabled making these popup buttons. At the time, I thought these buttons were ludicrously large. But nowadays, I'm viewing all websites at 150% zoom because everything seems too damn small.
